Hello there!
A few years back, I picked up a $5 watercolor set (that Crayola puts to shame) to pass time during lock-down. Little did I know that the $5 watercolor set would become the least economical, yet best, purchase of my life. I would never have guessed that watercolor, and art in general, would begin consuming ALL of my time, brain space, and budget. I’ve always felt the urge to create, which in the past has left me with a revolving door of hobbies and overflowing craft closets, until painting became the first hobby in a long line to stick around!
As a perfectionist with unreasonable expectations, watercolor defeated me…it’s unpredictable, uncontrollable, constantly changing, and an unbelievably beautiful medium that I absolutely cannot resist using. Watercolor has challenged everything I thought about creativity, art, and self-expression. No other mediums quite compare in my estimation (though that hasn't stopped me from purchasing and painting with gouache, acrylics, water-soluble oils….and any other item available in our local art supply store).
My dog Dolly and fiancé Jimmy were my first two models and feature prominently in every other page of my sketchbook. Whether I draw them out of love or convenience… we will never know! Otherwise, I enjoy drawing and painting a variety of subjects. While figures and animals are my favorite subjects (as my first two models also suggest), I also enjoy loose florals and all things nature. Living in central New Jersey, the “garden state” provides a beautiful back drop for all things plein-air.
Art has become a meditative life-giving practice for me, so regardless of whatever utensil is in hand and subject is on paper, I will be happy. Thanks for taking a look at my art!
